Tery Žeželj: If trees would cry, we would cry too
self-guided walking tour, 30 min
Every day, 25–29 Sep
Cukrarna
If trees would cry, we would cry too is a soundwalk, a site-sensitive walking activation that recalibrates the mind and body and makes them able to perceive agents that have not been mourned or are impossible to mourn along the way. The walk honours the life of Pika, the artist’s family dog companion that left in May 2023. The walking part is framed with the audio recording of walking the route they first walked together in April 2008. It is a way of grieving. Walking the circle in her hometown, again and again, to let the memories flow.
To address the questions of what is worthy of mourning in our society, how we collectively deal with ecological grief, and how we can mourn other bodies, we are joined by Lea Leskovec, a forester, to share her thoughts on the way death could be thought of in a non-human world and faced collectively.
Tery Žeželj studied Dramaturgy and Performing Arts in Ljubljana and Contemporary Theatre, Dance, and Dramaturgy at the Utrecht University. Her interests lie at the intersection of feminism, ecology, and performing arts. Currently, she is employed as an assistant researcher at the University of Nova Gorica.
