Angles, distances, connectedness and the positioning of the self are the themes explored in this work to poignantly illustrate to listeners that our ecologies are not as stable as once thought, as they morph and are in constant flux, both within themselves and with each other. Through the artistic process of sonic trigonometry, the audience is offered the opportunity to self-reflect and re-evaluate how we map space and environments and how memory abstracts the mapping of place. In this new work, sound artist Colin Black shares with us his personal audio recordings collected during his travels from the Arctic Circle to the desert in Australia and many other acoustic ecologies between these points, as his album of sonic sites reveals an increasing presence of the imprint of human activity. Furthermore, through this artistic process, the audience is subtly encouraged to triangulate their own personal position in the world with issues of global sustainability and our collective survival on planet Earth.
